Where it is
The city’s Murfreesboro 2035 plan, Chapter 4 says downtown is “generally bounded by Broad Street to the southwest, Front Street to the west, mid-block between Lytle Street and College Street to the north, and S. Academy Street to the east.” That core is zoned Central Business District and covers 45.98 acres in 147 parcels, with blocks about 330 feet square.
The plan describes lands zoned Commercial Local on three sides of the core and the area across Broad Street to the south and west as the Murfreesboro Bottoms, mostly warehousing and industry along the CSX rail line. It proposes extending the downtown character toward New Salem Highway and up Northwest Broad Street. The plan’s downtown neighborhood map shows the East Main Street Historic District to the east; see our East Main Street page.
Every downtown address is inside city limits and in ZIP code 37130, so the city provides police, fire and trash pickup.
