Trick-or-treating at home
With no city-set hours, the usual signal applies: a porch light on means candy, and a dark porch means the house is sitting this one out. Ask your HOA or neighborhood group if it has agreed on a time.
Safety
The American Red Cross and the Consumer Product Safety Commission suggest:
- Choose flame-resistant costumes and wigs, add reflective tape to costumes and bags, and use face makeup instead of masks.
- Stay on sidewalks, cross only at corners and don’t cut across yards.
- Visit only homes with a porch light on, and take treats at the door; never go inside.
- Have an adult check treats before anyone eats them.
- Light jack-o’-lanterns with battery candles or glow sticks.
- Drivers: slow down and watch for children in dark clothes after sunset.
